Thermal insulation in buildings is an important factor to achieving thermal comfort for its occupants. Insulation reduces unwanted heat loss or gain and can decrease the energy demands of heating and cooling systems.
The flow of heat can be retarded by addressing conduction, convection and radiation, and is dependent on the physical properties of the material employed to do this.
Cavity wall insulation is a fantastic way to significantly reduce the amount of energy you need to heat your home. The average house could reduce heating costs by 15%. In fact, between 2002 and 2005 around 800,000 households installed cavity wall insulation. It is estimated that this will have saved nearly 400,000 tonnes of CO2.
Filling the gap between the two walls of a house with an insulating material massively decreases the amount of heat which escapes through the walls. It will help create a more even temperature in your home, help prevent condensation on the walls and ceilings and can also reduce the amount of heat building up inside your home during summer hot spells.
Around a third of all the heat lost in an un-insulated home is lost through the walls. If you have cavity walls, insulating them will make a great difference, on your fuel bills.

Structural insulated panels (or structural insulating panels), SIPs, are a composite building material. They consist of a sandwich of two layers of structural board with an insulating layer of foam in between. The board is usually oriented strand board (OSB) and the foam either expanded polystyrene foam (EPS), extruded polystyrene foam (XPS) or polyurethane foam.
SIPs share the same structural properties as an I-beam or I-column. The rigid insulation core of the SIP performs as a web, while the OSB sheathing exhibits the same properties as the flanges. SIPs replace several components of conventional building such as studs and joists, insulation, vapor barrier and air barrier. As such they can be used for many different applications such as exterior wall, roof, floor and foundation systems.

Combining the highest levels of thermal performance with fire and acoustic requirements in commercial buildings, where the required performance is higher than the basic specifications, is very important .
High standards of thermal insulation can offer a practicable and cost-effective means of reducing C02 emissions. Consideration should also be given to introducing solutions to manage noise from entertainment areas. Fire safety of buildings, enabling them to comfortably meet the fire protection standards can also be achieved with Rockwool fire range, FirePro.
Our range of high performance insulation products offers a total solution for the provision of effective insulation in Commercial Buildings; non-residential including Health, Education, Leisure Buildings, Exhibition Centres, Shopping Centres and Airports

In Residential Buildings, insulation can be used for thermal, acoustic and fire insulation in ceilings, walls, floors and roofs. Increasing the energy efficiency in residential buildings involves improvements to the building envelope. The level of insulation required to satisfy the specification is expressed in terms of U-values for the main structural elements, such as the walls, roof, etc. U-values measure the rate of energy loss through these elements. This rate can be reduced by incorporating more insulation within the application.
